Fredrick J. Finlayson 1931 - 2013 Fredrick James Finlayson passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 21, 2013 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. He was born April 23, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leon I. and Claris Erickson Finlayson. He was the seventh of their eight children - all of whom preceded him in death. He proudly served his country in the Air Force for 2 years during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service he served an honorable LDS mission to the East Central States. Upon his return he was sealed to his sweetheart, Mary Karen Inkley, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 1, 1956. They have 8 children, 36 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Fred received a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the University of Utah and worked as an accountant at several different companies during his career. Prior to retiring he also sold life insurance for Beneficial Life. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many different callings - including nursery leader, Bishop and Patriarch. He is survived by his sweet wife, Karen, who selflessly cared for him in their home right until the very end. He is also survived by their children: Roslyn (Guy) Peterson, James, Lisa (Bruce) Ladle, Steven (Shirley), Terry (Brenda), Heidi (Terry) Harrison, Jennifer (Dana) Williams, Callie (Brandon) Ayers, and Susan Finlayson. He was preceded in death by 3 sweet grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Taylorsville Valley Park Stake Center (2603 West 4700 South), Taylorsville, UT . Viewings will be held Thursday, October 24, 2013, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and Friday at the church, 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park. The family would like to thank Superior Hospice and Aspen Senior Care Center (camp) for their loving care of Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Alzheimer's Association.
