Gayla E. Petty, born on September 16, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away in her home in Flower Mound, Texas on January 6, 2025, with her husband by her side. She was 78 years old.
Gayla is survived by her husband of 52 years, D. Craig Petty; her brother, Ralph (and wife Judy) Turner; her daughter, Angela (and husband Mark) Loertscher ; her sons, Justin Petty (and wife Jana) and Michael Petty; her raised Grandchildren Samantha (and husband Justin) McFarland, River (and wife Olivia) Petty; as well as her cherished family of thirteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Known affectionately as "Grandma" Gayla was the matriarch of her family and a source of love and guidance to all who knew her. Preceded in death by her father, Leroy Turner; mother, Luana Turner; brothers Keith and Royce Turner; daughters Stephanie Tuttle and Jennifer Petty.
Gayla was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the restored gospel. She served in many callings throughout her life. Primary, Young Women's, Music Director, and Activities Committee. Anything she was involved in she gave her all. Gayla and Craig were married in 1972 in West Valley City, Utah. Later in 1978 their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Utah Temple. All their children have been sealed to them for time and all eternity.
Gayla will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, grandmother and great grandmother. Her life was marked by unwavering dedication to her family and faith. Despite facing numerous health challenges in her later years, she remained steadfast in her love for others.
May Gayla's memory bring comfort to those who loved her and inspiration to all who were touched by her kindness and faith.
Funeral Services will be held in Utah on January 18, 2025, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah. Viewing will run from 9:30 am to 10:30 am and the Funeral will begin at 11:00 am in McDougal's Chapel. Interment and the Dedication of the grave will follow the funeral at South Jordan Cemetery, 10630 South 1055 West, South Jordan, Utah.
Gayla also lived a number of years in Texas. There will be a Memorial Service held on Saturday January 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3882 Quail Run Rd, Flower Mound, Texas.
