Gaylie Aloyce Hudson Lelis 1915 ~ 2012 Our beloved, dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend passed away September 2, 2012 early in the morning. She was born March 19, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Walter Addison and Angie L Montague Hudson, the youngest of seven children. All of her brothers and sisters preceded her in death: Vivia Hudson, La Faunce French , Scott, Henry, LaVell, Dessie Bernice Craig. Gaylie married George Lelis after dating him for four years. They were married August 4, 1936 in Lovelock, Pershing County, Nevada. Their love and marriage was solemnized August 5, 1985 in the Salt Lake Temple. Gaylie and George worked side by side for years at their grocery store, Temple Supermarket on North Temple and Redwood Road. They had three daughters, Joyce (Raymond L.) Davis, Darleen Marilyn Dintelmann, and Julie (Ralph J.) Sartori; All three girls worked in the store side by side with their parents. Mom supported Dad in his love for fishing and went with him on the Provo River, salmon fishing at Challis, Idaho, at Strawberry Reservoir and Flaming Gorge. Gaylie s strong desire to go to the temple led her to do baptisms for the dead in the Salt Lake Temple years before her endowment. She performed about 5,000 baptisms before she and George later worked together for 10 years in the Jordan River Temple Baptistry. They always thought of this as their mission. When George died March 17, 2000, she continued to work in the Baptistry for 12 more years. Gaylie served in Primary and Young Women s organizations of her church, also librarian, Family History Consultant, Visiting Teacher and Visiting Teaching Supervisor. She was called to serve as a counselor in the Young Women when she was in her late 60's. She once said, Do you think I can remember how to ride a bike so I can go with my girls? She did! She worked to help the young women earn their Young Women Medallions and being a good example by earning hers also. Her work in genealogy became a work of love as she spent many hours searching for ancestors back to the 10th century on one or more lines. She loved reading her scriptures and at times when we would stop to visit, she had her book open and was reading. She is survived by her 3 daughters; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is a great example of love and service to us. A viewing, where family and friends may share love, respect and condolences, will be held Friday, September 7, 2012, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road.
