George Arthur Doty passed away March 25, 2023. He was a kind, gentle, loving man who freely gave his heart away. And so, the Lord called him home. His heart too weak to stay.
George was born August 20, 1947 to Arthur LeRoy Doty and Mary Elva Bertoch Doty. He grew up in the Hunter (West Valley) area and graduated from Cyprus High School in 1965.
Always a lover of airplanes, he proudly served in the US Air Force and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam and Thailand during the Vietnam War. He came home from the war and began working at Hill Air Force Base, a job he held for over 50 years. He worked in management on the radars for the F16 fighter jets. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 2017.
On July 14, 1972, he married Susan Marie Francis. They were married 50 + years. This marriage resulted in four children, Kelly Marie, Wendy Ann (Dolly), Sara Jean, and Jeffrey Ryan Doty. They were a great source of pride, and he loved them very dearly. He was truly a devoted father and was there to support their every need.
George was blessed with four wonderful grandchildren. Oh, how he loved them. He attended all their soccer, basketball, choir, and drama events. He loved everything they did. He was always ready to drive them wherever they needed to go. They brought him great joy.
Family vacations and togetherness were important to George. Every summer he drove us to Cedar City for the Utah Shakespeare Festival. How he enjoyed his plays, attending over 25 plays in the last year. He also enjoyed attending Grizzley Hockey games with his son, a good round of golf and laughing with many of his favorite comedians.
He is survived by his wife, Susan and his four children, Kelly Nelson (Gary), Wendy (Dolly) Doty, Sara Doty, and Jeffrey Ryan Doty (Patricia). Also survived by his precious grandchildren, Kate, Garrett, and Grant Nelson, and Liam Doty. His three siblings, Linda Ree, John Doty, Cheryl Aggers (Mindy and Landon) and brother and sister in-laws Steven and Linda Francis (Wes, Jon, & Tex). He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and niece, Carrieann Steffey. He is also preceded by his in-laws Warren C. and Shirley Francis, and sister in-law Nancy Jean Francis.
A viewing in his honor will be held at McDougal Funeral Home on Thursday, March 30th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS chapel at 5000 W Pavant Ave. in West Valley, UT with a viewing one hour prior.
May we all have a heart as big as George did. Tell someone you love them everyday.
