George Rausch 1927 - 2025
Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George Rausch, returned home to his sweetheart, Connie Annetta Sorensen, on March 29, 2025. They were married for 49 years before her passing in 1999, so he has been alone for 25 years.
Dad was born on April 20, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to George Rausch and Sophie Katharine Marquardt. He was the youngest and last surviving member of his immediate family, which included his parents and six sisters.
George is survived by all 14 of his children:
Annetta (the late Doug Moeller), George (Jolene), Laura (Steve Warner), Jenny (Brent Timothy), Ronald (Sharlene), Rachel (Steve Watts), Scott (Shaunda), Ted Rausch, Helen (Rocky Terry), Bonnie Anderson Phil Elmers), John (Jennifer), Connie (Lavell Rayborn), Roger (Sheri), Leland (Tauna)
Grandpa George's posterity includes 65 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren with two more great-grandchildren on the way.
Dad proudly served in the U.S. Navy in 1945 during World War II for nearly 11 months. In 1948, he began serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission. Just 18 days after returning home from his mission, he married his eternal companion, Connie, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for only 19 days before he was inducted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War in December 1950 until he was discharged 20 months later.
Dad faithfully fulfilled many callings in the Church throughout his life, serving as a Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, including twice as a bishop's counselor & Young Men's President. He was also a Primary teacher for nearly 40 years, a ward clerk, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the stake activities committee, where he loved serving alongside his wife. He was a constant presence at Young Women's camps, attending 38 times. It was not uncommon for him to juggle three or four callings at once.
His hobbies reflected his creative and industrious nature. His love of photography began in high school, leading him to own several cameras and even set up his own darkroom. In the 1950s, he developed an interest in audio recording, building a collection of reel-to-reel tapes featuring music, talks, and more.
For many years, Dad worked as a warehouse foreman for Lennox Industries. His job provided access to scrap wood, which he used to create furniture, toys, and other wooden items. His carpentry skills were exceptional, and every room in the family home was graced with something he had crafted.
To the very end, Dad had an exceptional memory. He could remember names, places, dates, stories, poems, jokes and was proudly known as (Corny Joke George). He was pretty amazing!
George's legacy is one of faith, hard work, service and love for his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
