Geraldine Smith 1932 2014 Geri, age 81, passed away March 18, 2014, in Murray, Utah. She was born Nov. 23, 1932, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Ralph Christiansen and Helen Gamett Smith. She graduated from Cyprus High School and earned a degree in registered nursing from St. Marks School of Nursing. She loved playing the drum in the Magna Rotary Club Drum and Bugle Corps, where she traveled the country performing at several events. On May 16, 1957, Geri married her sweetheart, James W. Smith (deceased) in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised a daughter, Lisa, and son, Keith. As a member of the LDS Church she served in many ward positions; but enjoyed serving most in the Young Women organization. She dedicated many years to developing a beautiful singing voice and often shared her talent in church. She loved serving others. She displayed that love while working as a registered nurse. She ended her career working in hospital administration as a Discharge Planner for Alta View Hospital. While working full-time most of her adult life, she always found time to be there for her children. The Smith home was a place where her children brought all of their friends. She enjoyed growing and canning fruits and vegetables. But most of all, she loved traveling and camping with her family. She loved family traditions like camping trips to American Fork and Provo Canyons; gathering at the family condo in East Canyon; and spending their retirement years as snowbirds in the southwest. Survivors include her son, Keith (Sue) of Lacey, Wash.; daughter, Lisa Smith of Taylorsville, Utah; and grandchildren, Kacy of Olympia, Wash., Holly (James) of Albuquerque, N.M.; Curtis (Kelly) of Pullman, Wash., and Derek of Lacey, Wash.; brothers, Stan Smith of Warrengton, Va., and Steve Smith of Stansbury Park, Utah; sister, Karen Smith of South Jordan, Utah; and four great-grandchildren, Ammon, Luke, Elaine and Henry. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Smith; parents; and sister, Annette Roberts. A viewing will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 24, at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road, in Taylorsville, Utah. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m., March 25, at the Centerville Cemetery, located off Porter Lane and 700 East in Centerville, Utah. We want to express a special thanks to Rocky Mountain Care Center in Murray for the gentle care they provided our mother. We will miss you Mom (Grandma Geri), but we are comforted by the knowledge the gospel provides that you will be near during special occasions.
