Geri Diane King, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2024, at her home in West Jordan, Utah, after courageously choosing to end a 13-year journey on dialysis.
Born on February 20, 1947, in Long Beach, California to Dess Kingsley Phipps and Pauline Winder Phipps.
She was preceded in death by her parents along with her 2 brothers, James Alvin Phipps and Joel Kingsley Phipps.
Geri is survived by her older sister, Judy Houska, her children Tamera (Tony) Rasmussen, Tim (Tanya) King, and Tracy (Mark) Kauffman as well as her 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A 1964 graduate of Dominguez Hills High School in Compton, California, she married Dale King that same year and was married to him for 20 years, sharing three children together that she treasured more than anything. Known for her love of sewing and crafts, Geri poured her creativity into making beautiful dresses for her daughters and granddaughters, crafting quilts, pillows, wall-hangings and cross-stitching heartfelt gifts for her loved ones. She took special pride in baking and was celebrated for her flaky pie crusts, which she shared generously.
A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Geri found joy in her church callings, especially while working with the youth and in the nursery with young children.
Her friends and family knew her as someone who always looked on the bright side, even during her "part-time job" on dialysis. She formed friendships with her caretakers, and appreciated their time and attention.
Geri was a devoted grandmother who delighted in spending time with her grandchildren. They have many happy memories of time spent with her but will mostly remember her fierce and unconditional love.
Her family and friends will hold close the memory of a woman who gave generously, laughed wholeheartedly, and loved unconditionally. Geri's legacy of hope, compassion, and resilience lives on in all who knew her.
