Gerry Edward Lake returned home to his Father in Heaven July 24, 2016. He was born April 3, 1938, to Edward and Marguerite Beatty Lake, in Salt Lake City. On Oct. 30, 1959, he married Gayle Hendrickson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Children: Jeffrey, Greg, Jolynn Schmidt, Robert, David, and Jeanette Hunt; 25 grandchildren; and siblings, Connie Jones, Lloyd, and Claudia Mendoza. Gerry Lake was a cheerful, kind hearted person, with a very gentle heart. He loved to be with his grandchildren. He loved to cook for people, especially his big breakfast, he took pleasure in serving others. When he made his big breakfast whether at home, at the cabin, or in the outdoors camping, he was found whistling. Our dad was constantly whistling while he worked on projects around the house. He was a master baker of breads(pumpkin, banana, or zucchini bread), pies or bunt cakes. He was an amazing scoutmaster, loved to go on camping trips, working on merit badges, and the scouts always looked forward to his dutch oven cooking. He was an excellent listener, and offered good advice. You could always count on him. He didn't have an angry side very often. He was quiet but once you got to know him he was very funny. He always added a little humor to the stories he would tell. Always kind and very loyal. On trips with the family, him and our mom would do all the work, cleaning, cooking, washing the dishes, so that us kids could play and enjoy the trip. He loved to travel, and camp and take us to different places. Him and mom loved to research where we were going so we had plenty to see and enjoy. He taught us kids the value of hard work. He was a hard worker, never complained he had to go to work. He once said to one of his sons, Always be on time to work, put in a full day of work, and get the work done. He never wanted to be late to work, and would often leave a half hour early, so he wouldn't be late to work. He was very dependable. He truly loved his family.
