Glen Alvin Weight

June 6, 1933 — February 3, 2014

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on February 3, 2014 at his home in Taylorsville Utah. He was born June 6, 1933 in Springville, Utah to Leo Dean and Lola Brown Weight. He married Hazel McIntosh in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 6, 1958. Glen graduated from Springville High School in June 1951. He participated on the basketball, football and track teams. He made the Utah All Star Basketball Squad. He played for the Utah State University basketball team on a scholarship. He served an L.D.S. mission in Helsinki, Finland after attending college for a year. Glen proudly served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, El Paso Texas. While there, he competed with his unit's track and field team. Following his military service he continued playing basketball for Utah State University as well as competing in the shot-put and discus events. Glen graduated with an Industrial Engineering degree in 1961. His career begin at Thiokol and continued on to Kennecott, Hercules, Envirotherm, UTA and retiring as the L.D.S. Riverton Facilities Manager. Glen always said his life began when he got married. He dearly loves Hazel. He also loves serving his God. He loves people and is a friend to everyone he meets. Glen used his sense of humor to connect with people. His love of God and the Gospel gave him a great and constant desire to share his testimony with anyone and everyone. Serving in church callings gave him many opportunities to share his love and testimony. Even though he spent much of his time serving others he always made time to be with his family. It is obvious that his wife and children were his greatest joy. His family has many fond memories of spending time with their father and have been greatly blessed by his faithfulness. It's hard to find anyone who enjoyed working as much as Glen did. He was not afraid to tackle any project and especially loved helping his neighbors. One of his favorite projects was the construction of the family cabin. Working side-by-side with their father, Glen's children learned the value of hard work. They were often found at the ranch fixing fence, gardening, picking choke cherries, cutting firewood and maintaining the property. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with family and friends hunting, camping, fishing, hiking, boating and scouting. His love for the outdoors led him on many scout campouts where he was able to influence many young men. Glen loved being able to teach the gospel through missionary work. He loves the Finnish people and thoroughly enjoyed serving them along with his faithful, loving companion. He and Hazel were able to go on several missions to Finland. His mission president, Kim Johnson said of Glen; He had faith that led him to tell the missionaries there "Why just one or two converts per missionary? With the right power of faith we can convert thousands per missionary". Glen is greatly loved and will be missed by many but especially by his family: His wife of 55 years Hazel, and children; Jill (Robert) Sheffer; Debra (Leo) Durkin; Peggy (deceased); Cheri Brooks; Greg (Cheryl) Weight; Pamela (Troy) Wertz; Elizabeth (David) Richens; Laura (Greg) Steinicke; Annette (Wyatt) Germer; James (Jami) Weight; 48 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; Norma Mecham (Sister).
