Glen E. Brock, Jr.

March 11, 1935 — May 9, 2018

Glen Eugene Brock, Jr., 83, a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, died May 9, 2018 at his home in West Valley City, Utah, after humbly accepting his primary brain cancer diagnosis on February 16, 2018. Glen was born in New York City on March 11, 1935, the only child of Glen Eugene Brock and Patricia Elizabeth Agnes Mercer. He grew up in and near Washington, D. C. Following his graduation from Northwestern Senior High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years and was honorably discharged as an Aviation Electronicsman 2/C. Glen taught ballroom dancing at Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire dance studios, attended Capital Radio Engineering Institute (1959- 1962), and repaired data processing machines in Washington, D.C. before making his home in Utah in 1967 where he met his wife, LuReen Day, at Brigham Young University. They were married June 21, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple and are the parents of five children: Julianne (Jessica), Laurie (Mrs. Curtis Peterson), Elizabeth (Mrs. Christopher Howick), Nathan (wife Jaclyn Jensen) and David, all of whom survive him as well as his devoted wife. Also surviving him are 12 grandchildren: Katriel (Mrs. Jared Abbott), Joshua, Rachel, John, Jacob, Sarah, Samuel, Benjamin, Diana, Michael, Ella, and Ava; great-grandchildren Hazel and Ruben; and many nieces and nephews. Glen loved children and enjoyed making them smile. He always encouraged his own children to develop their talents and abilities, which they have done exceptionally well. His cheerfulness and tender heart will not be forgotten. Glen also built custom fireplace mantels and worked for Mountain Bell in Salt Lake City, retiring from Qwest as a specialist in telecommunications after excelling in numerous technical certification programs at universities and training schools. He enjoyed spending time with his family and using his scroll saw to create puzzles, signs and wall art for craft show sales and fair competitions. He loved music, the theater, reading and traveling especially his trip to Scotland in 2016 and to other ancestral homes. Glen was community-minded, joined the West Valley City CERT program, and donated gallons of blood to the Red Cross. Glen joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1962 and soon thereafter served a two-year Stake Mission assisting full-time missionaries in the Eastern Atlantic States Mission. He has served faithfully in many different church callings since then. He will be remembered for his expertise in making winning Pinewood Derby cars for Cub Scouts. Since his retirement he particularly enjoyed serving as a missionary at the Magna Home Storage Center and as a baptistry worker in the Jordan River Temple for seven years until February 2016. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oxford Ward, 3671 S. Oldham St. (4180 W.), West Valley City.
