Gloria Jensen Syme, age 88 and 363 days, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side January 28th, 2014 just after 6:00 p.m. in Murray, Utah at CareSource Residence Hospice. Gloria was born January 30, 1925 in Fountain Green, Utah, daughter of Joseph P. And Nellie V. Jensen. She graduated from Moroni High School and aspired to be a nurse but decided she couldn't go through with it after watching brain surgery and feeling sick. Gloria married her beloved husband, Glade Hyrum Syme, on June 17, 1947 in the Manti LDS Temple and they were happily married for 49 years. They lived in Kearns for most of their married life and had three remarkable children, Teresa, Jeffery, and Joseph. Gloria was a successful homemaker. With her husband and two sons, they owned and operated Valley Bowling Lanes for 31 years. This is a place where the family grew closer and learned to work together sweating over pinsetters and cash registers. There was a place for everyone at the bowling alley, which is why it was so special. She enjoyed working the front desk, as long as you didn't block the view of her boys bowling or sharpen her pencils. She made many friends and memories bowling in the Big K league. She enjoyed going on the yearly ABC and WIBC National Bowling trips. More often than not, upon entering her warm home, if you didn't find her putting together a thousand piece puzzle of nothing but scenery, you would find her playing a game. Gloria loved nothing more than spending time with her family playing games, as long as she was winning. She loved to play UNO though she couldn't distinguish between green and blue. She loved playing Progressive and Gin Rumi and being the wild card, and Yahtzee was never a bad choice in her book. Gloria and Glade enjoyed their monthly trips to Wendover with their friends to spend hours sitting at the ten cent poker machine waiting and waiting for their big win. This was the one time a month that the old folks got to act like young kids again. She had a wish to have a cabin for her family, built on a piece of property purchased by the family. Gloria had catalogs and magazines and she would sit in her chair and look through them day in and day out to find new things to decorate her cabin. Gloria always wanted to be there. It was her favorite place and even when she wasn't feeling well she would do anything she could to make it up to the property even just for the day. The cabin was built for her, and some of her best times were spent there. Gloria is survived by her three children; Teresa and husband, Linc Bichard, Jeffery and wife, Anne Syme, and Joseph L. and wife, Emily Syme; sister Vera Chappel; seven grandchildren, Becky and husband, Marlin Kidd, Debbie Bichard Hatfield, Clint Bichard and partner Charease Turner, Jared and wife, Lacey Syme, Joseph G.
