Graeme Douglas Ormsby

August 26, 1942 — October 14, 2016

Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Graeme Douglas Ormsby passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 14, 2016. He is survived by his wife Barbara; sons Roger (Beth), Brett (Marianne), Dean (Carrie), Alan (Wendy), Wayne (Haley) and Brian (Heidi); 20 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sisters Diane and Lynette. Graeme was born August 26, 1942 in Hamilton, New Zealand. His parents were Oliver Richard Ormsby and Florimel Catherine Wade. Graeme served a service mission building the New Zealand temple. Graeme attended the Church College of New Zealand, and later he met his wife while attending BYU Hawaii. Graeme and Barbara were married in the Salt Lake City temple on September 7, 1961. Blessed with a mathematical and engineering mind, Graeme later taught at the Church College of Hawaii (now known as BYU Hawaii) and also at the Church College of New Zealand. Graeme and Barbara moved their little family to Utah in 1973. Graeme spent his career as an elevator adjuster. Graeme served as a Bishop with his young family in New Zealand and then later served as High Priest Group Leader, Counselor in the bishopric, Ward Mission Leader, and a ward missionary in his home ward in Taylorsville, UT. Graeme and Barbara also served as temple workers in the Jordan River Temple for twelve years. Graeme was passionate about family history work, tracing his family history back to Adam. Graeme enjoyed teaching others how to do family history work. He especially liked taking his children and grandchildren to do temple work for their ancestors. Graeme loved his family and sacrificed throughout his life showing a supreme example to his sons who strive to further his legacy. He taught his sons through example how to work hard and always take care of family. Graeme was a BYU supporter and contributed to the education of students who attended. His family would like to express gratitude and thanks to his friends, ward members, and health care providers who took such meticulous care of him.
