Gwenith Shepherd

Gwenith Myrtle Bates Shepherd, age 92, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 16, 2024.

Born on January 15, 1932, in Bates, Idaho, to Ernest George Bates and Louise Sarah Butler.

She graduated from Ricks College in 1950 with a bachelors degree in Education. She taught elementary school in Shelley, Idaho, and also in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

Gwenith married her sweetheart Todd Shepherd on December 20, 1957 in the Idaho Falls Temple. She was a lifelong and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many church positions but teaching primary held a special spot in her heart as she loved children. Gwenith devoted her life to nurturing and educating her children.

Her love for family was paramount, and she thrived in the company of her loved ones. Her warm and welcoming home was a testament to her deep commitment to family and the joy she found in their presence. Gwenith's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Dementia took her mind from us but it could never take her beautiful spirit, her kindness, gratitude and love.

She is survived by her children; Jeanine Lewis, Marilyn (Steve) Shumway, Georgia (Gary) Rosquist, Matthew (LeiAnn) Shepherd, Arlen Shepherd, Mitchell (Morag) Shepherd, Brian (Malia) Shepherd; 21 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Her three siblings, Derold (Nyla) Bates, Twila (Paul deceased) Worthington, Carol (Charlie) Pyne.

Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Todd Matthews Shepherd, and her siblings; Leonora, Merrill, June, Orrin, Irvin, Neva, Steven, Velda, Wanda, Laura, Cloyd, Marvin.

A Viewing and Memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at West Valley Utah Granger Stake Center at 3963 South Peachwood Drive (3480 West) West Valley City, Utah. 84119 on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Viewing at 11:00am-12:45pm, Memorial service begins at 1:00pm. Gwenith will be buried at Valley View Memorial Park in West Valley directly following the Memorial service."
