Harold Giles Chapman, 78, died December 6, 2016 with his wife by his side at his home in Sandy, Utah. Born November 5, 1938 to Arthur W. Chapman and Vivian Giles, the fourth of eight children. He grew up in Salt Lake and attended Granite High School. Harold joined the US Air Force, served his country for four years and trained as an aircraft mechanic. After leaving active service, he was a top aircraft mechanic at Hill Air Force Base for 30 years. He loved working on the F-4 Phantom, F-16 Falcon, and C-130 Hercules. He received the Zero Defects and many other awards. He said "These pilots are counting on me" and knew their lives depended on the quality of his work. Married the love of his life, Sherrill Lynn Recourt, on October 5, 1961 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They shared a life full of joy, happiness, adventure, and love. He was a caring, attentive husband and father. He was an example to their four children, and a loving grandfather and great grandfather. Harold demonstrated his love through quiet service. He was a talented craftsman, builder and mechanic. His attention to detail was evident in everything he did. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served valiantly in each of his callings. Survived by his wife, Sherrill; their children, Jeffery, Kenneth, Steven, and Jill, their spouses, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Surviving siblings: Marion, Elaine, Leslie, Paul, and Betty. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 9, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at the Crescent 12th Ward, 85 East 11000 South, Sandy. Viewings will be held Thursday, December 8th, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and prior to services at the church from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment,Mountain View Memorial Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
