Harold Ivins Tanner

March 7, 1926 — December 17, 2018

Harold Ivins Tanner peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father, and earthly parents and siblings on Monday, December 17, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Harold was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 7, 1926 to Willie Dudley Kitchens and William Joseph Tanner, the youngest of five children. Harold attended West High School and graduated from UCLA Dental School in California. He married his wife of 65 years, Joan Bult Tanner in Las Vegas in 1953, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He worked for Mountain Fuel for over 45 years. Harold served with the Merchant Marines in World War II, and in the Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Joanie, the Teton Club in their fifth wheel trailer and taking the family on trips to Yellowstone, California, the Pacific Northwest and Canada. He loved his life as a “Snowbird” in Winter Haven in St. George, Utah. He coached hockey, and frequently encouraged his sons and grandchildren to give back to the organizations that they belonged to. He was an avid supporter of the Utah Jazz, Snow Softball, and all teams his grandchildren were playing on. For the last 15 years Harold loved spending a good part of his summer in Alaska, fishing, watching his friends fish, and tending the campfire on the Kenai River. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in their activities, and if he could travel to them, all the better. He loved FoxNews, and “taking five”. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spending the majority of his life in the Winder 9th Ward, and recently was a member of the Holbrook Creek Branch. Harold loved his family, his country, and his Lord, and will be greatly missed.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings William Jr, Clarence, David, and Grace. He is survived by his wife Joanie; and sons Brad (Susan) and Mark (Dee); grandchildren Ryan Beckstead (Jamie), Brady Beckstead (Melissa), Zach (Jentry), Chaz Beckstead (Whitney), Grady and Katie; great-grandchildren Lexie, Halie, Olivia, Ella, Mia, Harrison, Baylor; and his granddog, Dakota.
