Hazel Bertoch Edler

Hazel Bertoch Edler, born November 6, 1914 in Hunter, Utah, died October 25, 2014. She was the fifth of eleven children of Vivian Cutcliffe and Hazel Ivy Hemenway Bertoch. Married Parley Stillman Edler on February 10, 1934 in Coalville, UT; sealed in the Salt Lake Temple May 4, 1962. She attended Whittier Elementary, Monroe Junior High, Cyprus High School and two quarters at the University of Utah. She loved growing up on the farm in a close loving family. Hazel and Stillman spent 14 years on the Western Pacific Railroad in Nevada and California, and two years at a lumber mill in California. When Stillman went to Vallejo, CA to work in the shipyards for two winters, they decided to move back to Utah near the family farm where she grew up. They enjoyed living back in Utah close to family and friends and got involved in church and Lion's club activities. Hazel enjoyed working in her garden, crocheting, making quilts for her grandchildren, and spending time with her family including the foster children she and Stillman had in their home. She is survived by 4 daughters, Cynthia (Stanley) Smith of Broad Run, VA; Susan (Richard) Johnson of West Valley City; Gayle (Charles) Hartwell of Monroe; and Janyce (LDee) Hemmert of Thayne, WY; foster son, Larry (Debbie) Mitchell, West Jordan; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 29 great-great-grandchildren; sister Janet (John) Heyn, of Salt Lake City; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1984, her only son Richard Stillman Edler; 1 grandson, David Smith; 5 sisters, Thelma (Lee) Brown, Anne (Ben) Salmensen, Adena (Robert W) Rydalch, June (Clore) Young, Shirley (Willard) Homer; and all 4 brothers, Vivian H (Gladys) Bertoch, Frank H. (Lyle) Bertoch, Philip H. (Carol) Bertoch and Richard K. (Carol) Bertoch. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014, 1:00 p.m. at the Hunter 23rd Ward , 3665 S. 6000 W., West Valley City, UT where a viewing will be held, 12:00-12:45 p.m. Online memories and condolences may be shared at www.mcdougalfuneralhomes.com.
