Hellen Curtis Nypower 1923 ~ 2014 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away October 1, 2104 at the age of 91. Born February 22, 1923 to Ilse Wesche Curtis and William Kourinakis Curtis in Bingham Utah. She moved soon after to Salt Lake City, Utah where he two wonderful brothers were born; George and Andrew Curtis. She grew up in SLC and attended Onequa Elementary, Horace Mann Jr. High and Graduated from West High in 1940. While visiting her aunts, Frieda Johnson and Mary Dillon in Maywood CA., she met and married Lewis Nypower march 23, 1941 in Las Vegas, NV. On April 16, 1941, she was sealed to her sweetheart husband in the Salt Lake LDS Temple by Harold B. Lee. Her first son Stephen was born in Maywood CA., just before World War II. Soon after she moved to SLC and worked for 3 years at Remington Arms Plant making 50 cal. Bullets, while her husband served in the Military Govt. In Japan as a Staff Sergeant. When he returned home, they moved to Long Beach CA., where his parents lived. Two more children were born to make their family complete; David and then Judy Ann. Both Stephen and David served a mission for the LDS Church. Stephen to Vancouver Canada; David to London, England. Hellen was a faithful member of the Mormon church serving the next 20 years as Teacher, Ward and Stake Board President in the Primary Organization. She served in Primary for 32 years. Moving to Cypress CA., she served as Spiritual Living Teacher, Ward President, and on the Relief Society Stake Board. She has been a Visiting Teacher for 70 years. Her last move was returning to Salt Lake City to be close to her great grandchildren. This move gave her great grandchildren. This move gave her the opportunity to work in the Jordan River Temple with her husband, an experience she will always cherish. She loved beautiful music, dancing weekly at the Lawrence Welk Show, Arrogon Ballroom in California, china painting, and oil painting won her many blue ribbons at the Fair. Over many years she demonstrated Crochenit, a new art form of knit and crochet to hundreds of women. This brought joy and many new friends. Preceded in death by parents; husband Lewis Nypower; son David Nypower; daughter Judy Ann McCullough and brothers George and Andrew Curtis. Survived by her son David Nypower, daughter Judy Ann McCullough and brothers George and Andrew Curtis. Survived by her son Stephen (Valelrie) and family who live in Calgary, Canada; two sister-in-laws Lois Curtis, SLC., Joann Curtis, Portland, Oregon; daughter-in-law Tess Nypower and family SLC, special granddaughter, Bridget Basinger (Reid), LSC; favorite aunt Mary Dillon and family, SLC; cousins Martha and Edward Harris and fmaily, N.J; cousins Connie Floor (Jerry) and family. All the Georgelas family and Curtis family. A very special adopted family Mary Lee and Andy Hackman and Kathryn and Jacob. A strong bond of love was made as they continue to fill a void of missing family members. Many wonderful family cousins and dear friends who have been so kind to her. "Thank-you dear family and friends-I love you, you have made my life complete". Thanks to all Dr.'s and Hospice, who served the last years of her life. Funeral service will be held Monday October 6, 2014, 12:00 noon at Mountain Shadows 2nd Ward, 7925 South 2700 West, West Jordan, Utah. Viewing 11:00 -11:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
