Henry Bernhard Kvist passed away January 3, 2016. He was born August 23, 1927 to John Albert Kvist and Lissa Haga Kvist; they were born in Finland but met in Utah. Henry had one sister, Ruth. He was raised in Union and at age 17 joined the Merchant Marine during World War II. He visited many countries from the Aleutian Islands to the South Pacific, delivering troops and supplies. He loved the ocean. He returned to Union after the war and met Betty Laverne Smart. They were married in the Manti Temple, July 29, 1949. They were blessed with 2 children, Rex (Robyn) Kvist and Irene (Pat) Fothergill. They first lived in Garfield and then in Granger (West Valley). He was an excellent carpenter and fixer of many talents. He worked at Kennicott Copper for 40 years, rising to Maintenance Foreman. He was President of the Beehive Chapter of Merchant Marines. He retired in 1994 and with Betty served an LDS mission in Arkansas. She passed away in 1999 and he married Earline Marshall. He is survived by wife Earline; 2 children; 5 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty; and sister Ruth. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 7th, 11:00 a.m., at Bennion 19th Ward, 6250 South 2200 West. Viewings will be held Wednesday, January 6th, 6-8:00 p.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and prior to services, 10-10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
