Irma Shorr Garske passed away July 5, 2016. She was born August 11, 1926, in Hamburg, Germany, to Alvin and Frieda Brey. She married Jerry Shorr and they had twin girls; one was stillborn, and Heidi, who suffered from brain injuries from birth, lived to the age of three. During her life she was married twice more, first to Earl Olsen, and then, Francis Garske. In 1950, Irma migrated to Salt Lake City, Utah, following her parents out of very rough circumstances in Germany. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where her father served as an LDS president. Irma's life revolved around her family, which made her the happiest. She loved to shop, especially for knick-knacks. Her house was a spotless shrine which looked like a gift shop - but she loved her stuff and showing it off. She also loved her stuffed animals, which were her friends. She is survived by children, Glenn Shorr, Dennis Shorr, and Karen Gillett Eskelson; son-in-law, David Gillett, whom she adored as a son; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Alzheimer's eventually took her and she had to be placed in a health care center. This event took away everything she owned in life - thank goodness that she never knew. She was worry-less and very funny to the very end. She never gave up for many years. She is the strongest woman I have ever known. She is now out of pain and on a new quest. I would like to thank all of the hospice nurses and Copper Ridge Health Care staff for all their care and services. A graveside service under the direction of McDougal Funeral home will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South, in Salt Lake City. Dinner to follow at Karen's house.
