Vance Bodily

September 5, 1934 — November 14, 2015

Irving Vance Bodily, our "one of a kind", "kid at heart", son, husband, father, grandpa and brother has completed his 81 year life journey and has moved onto his new eternal adventure. Born in Vernal, Utah, to Sterling and Reva Hall Bodily on September 5, 1934. Shirley Abplanalp of Bingham Canyon, Utah, captured his heart. They married June 29, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. They just celebrated 60 years together. They have resided in Kearns for 54 years, where they raised their seven children. They purchased a small farm in Murray, Utah, which has been a gathering place for family and friends, where many cherished memories have been made. He loved the red hills of Vernal, and passed that love onto his posterity, as he spent time with them hunting, camping, fishing and singing. He truly blessed the lives of his family with the selfless gift of his time and service. He worked and retired from the US Postal Service. He was a sharp shooter in the National Guard, earning the prestigious Minute Man Award. He is the 2015 State horseshoe champ and is a World Champion Horseshoe pitcher. He had quite the competitive spirit which was evident in a Sunday game of Rook. Dad served faithfully in many callings. He loved roadshows, ward parties and singing in the choir. Those looking forward to being reunited with him again are his wife Shirley; children, Wayne (Janet), Troy (Tammy), JaNae (Ron) Christensen, Brent (Tamara), Kent (Cammy), Janene Schiffman and Melanie (Brinton) Baggaley; 27 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; siblings, Renae Ormsby, Clela Nielsen, Verdin (Evelyn) and sister-in-law Judy. Rejoicing with him in a sweet reunion are his parents; brother Larry; sister Velma Loy; and brothers-in-law, Ed Ormsby and Otis Nielsen. Funeral services will be held, Friday, November 20th, 11:00 a.m., at Kearns 14th Ward, 4232 West 5015 South.
