J Roy “Pete” Parr joined the love of his life – Kathleen Linton Parr in eternal afterlife on December 20, 2018 at the age of 76. He is survived by his loving children Lance (Megan) Parr, Rick Allen Parr, and Cherise (James) Parr Vincent.
Pete was a loving father. He adored his grandchildren Cera, Cody, Tevin, Tanner, Connor and Crew; and great-grandchildren Aurora, Rogue and Charlie. He is survived by his sister Donna Coats and brother Judd Parr; and was preceded in death by his father Liston Parr, his mother Martha Parr Tulonen and sister Mary Vee Stevenson.
Pete was born on March 28, 1942 to Liston and Martha Parr in Granger Utah.. He grew up in Granger, Utah where he lost his father at the young age of 8 years old and became “the man of the family”. He immediately started working to help his mother support the family. Between his busy work schedule, Pete found time to enjoy life and excelled at basketball and baseball.
Along with excelling in sports at Granger High School, Pete was also very successful scholastically. Shortly after graduating in 1960 from high school, Pete met, and eventually married the love of this life - Kathleen Linton. They conceived four children together. The oldest, Michael Liston Parr did not survive pregnancy. The loving family unit of five had a wonderful, but far too short time together. Kathleen died of cancer at the young age of 29, when Lance, Rick and Cherise were only 8, 6 and 4 years old.
Pete raised his three small children alone, while maintaining a successful career at Midwest Office Supply, where he was a top salesman for many years. He provided well for his children who were never left wanting for love or material things. He was an attentive father who often worked over 60-hour work weeks and somehow also managed to be an incredibly active and devoted parent.
In his later life, Pete became an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found particularly rewarding purpose caring for those in the Legacy Branch of the Bennion Care Center. It was here where he met his special friend Judy Smith, who was with him when he passed.
Words cannot express the positive impact Pete had on the lives of the people around him, particularly his children. He made a promise to his wife before she passed away that he would do his best to care for their children the way she would have, and he never wavered from that promise. Pete was a kind, loving, gentle man with a joyful smile and roguish sense of humor. He will be missed more than words can say.
