"Friend to All" On August 23, 2014, our beloved son Jacob Carlos Santos, 15, was called home early. He was tragically killed, along with his dear grandmother (Ruth Nelson), in a car accident. Jacob was born October 18, 1998, on his mother's birthday, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She couldn't have asked for a greater gift, a true bundle of joy. His father (Carlos) was so excited to finally have a son. They couldn't have asked for a better one. Jacob had a passion for music, including playing the piano and singing. He enjoyed hiking, hunting with his dad (Robert), and participating in school plays. He loved playing cards, playing baseball and horsing around with his siblings and his cousins (who were his best friends). Jacob had a funny personality and you could always count on him for a laugh. He was an honor student; his parents never had to worry about his grades. Jacob's fun loving personality made it easy for him to make friends. He was independent and a great example to all his siblings, cousins and friends. Jacob loved the Lord. He frequently bore strong testimony about Heavenly Father's Plan. Jacob knew without a doubt that he would be reunited with his father (Carlos). He knew that families are forever. Jacob's testimony buoys us and strengthens us. He had a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon and the Gospel meant so much to him. He found joy in serving the Lord, especially in doing his home teaching; he happily served in all his Priesthood callings. He had no problem standing up for what was right, and often spoke out in defense of what he believed to be true. Jacob enjoyed Scouting and was about to complete his Eagle. He was a 15 year old who loved doing genealogy, which made his mom laugh, but with pride. He found happiness in serving others. His parents are honored to have him as their son. He made them proud every day of his much too short life. We are saddened that he is not here with us on earth, but it brings comfort to know he is with his sweet grandma, and has been reunited with his birth father who passed away when Jacob was 4. He was a good example to all and a righteous soul. The world is a better place for having had him in it. He will be dearly missed. Survived by his mother, Deanne Olsen Brown and father, Robert Gerald Brown; siblings Sara, Jessica, Samantha, Isaac, Porter, Connor and Elizabeth; grandparents Jerry and Peggy Brown and Gary Nelson. Preceded in death by father Carlos H. Santos; grandparents, Michael T. Olsen and Ruth Nelson. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2014, 11:30 a.m. at the Welby Stake Center, 8841 South 4800 West, West Jordan. Viewings will be held Thursday, August 28, 2014, 5-9:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, and Friday at the church, 10-11:00 a.m. Interment, Taylorsville Cemetery.
