Jacqueline Ellen Barker Sodja

November 13, 1952 — July 3, 2017

Jacqueline Ellen Barker Sodja, age 64, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side on Monday, July 3, 2017 after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. Jacque was born on November 13, 1952 in Murray, Utah to Vearl and Ruby Barker, and was the youngest of 5 children. She grew up in Taylorsville, Utah and often reminisced about her time growing up on the farm and driving her old red pickup truck through the fields. She graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1971, then spent a short time studying at Brigham Young University. While in college, she met her future husband, Marty Sodja. They were married on February 20, 1975, and eventually had 2 daughters, Lindsay and Haylee. After having children, Jacque spent her time at home, enjoying being a mother to her young girls. Once they were both in school, she began working for Salt Lake County at Kearns Recreation Center. She later transferred to Taylorsville Recreation Center as their new office coordinator. She loved her job and the people she worked with. She took pride in her work and loved to decorate the offices and lobby for each holiday. She always made an extra effort to make sure the Rec Center was an inviting place and the employees she managed were happy and treated fairly. She touched the lives of many people through her time with Salt Lake County, and developed many friendships that she continued to cherish after she could no longer work. Jacque's greatest joy in life was her friends and family. She was a friend to all who knew her. She spent years being a soccer, softball, and basketball mom to both of her daughters. With open arms she welcomed 2 sons to the family when Lindsay and Haylee got married. She was overjoyed to eventually become a grandma, and until the end her 4 grandkids could still bring a smile to her face. Our Mom, Wife, Grandma, Sister, and Friend left us too soon, but we take comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and has been reunited with all those who loved her and were awaiting her arrival in Heaven. Jacque is preceded in death by her father, Vearl Barker; mother, Ruby Barker; and sister, Dixie Bergeson. Survived by her husband, Marty; daughters, Lindsay (Justyn) Boudreau and Haylee (Chris) Long; brothers, Lynn (Carol) Barker and Dan (Randy) Barker; sister, Jill (Gary) Telford; and 4 grandchildren, Skylee, Kaisyn, and Kohyn Boudreau, and Camden Long. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 10, 2017 at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah 84123, where viewings will be held Sunday, July 9th from 6:00-8:00 pm, and Monday, July 10th from 10:00-10:45 am. Interment at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah 84120. The family would like to share a special thanks to all of those who helped care for Jacque at Intermountain Medical Center, Utah Cancer Specialists, and Cascades at Riverwalk.
