James Donald Jones

James Donald Jones 1925-2018 passed away at his home in Kearns, UT on October 4, 2018,beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend he was reunited withthe Joy of his life, Joy Loraine Jones. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildrenwhen he passed. James D. was one of The Greatest Generation and will be greatly missed.Born in Sanford Colorado, Don was 12th of 12 children. Father Ed died when he was 10. Hewas raised by his mother Amy and older siblings. Don grew up during the Great Depression. One of his lifelong companions was his older brother Charlie, who was given the charge Youtake care of your little brother. He was 14 at the time. Don only finished 8th grade, butdeveloped a lifelong passion for reading. He collected an extensive library and enjoyed givingaway much of his collection. At age 19 James D. was drafted into the Navy during World War II. He was a signalman in aLCVP (landing craft vehicle personnel). He served honorably on the U.S.S. Dade to the end ofhis enlistment. Dad met Mom when she was 17 and he was back from the service. Joy Loraine Caldwellbecame the love of his life. They were married July 16, 1948 in Leeds Utah, and later sealed inthe Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with seven children. He was preceded in death by his parents, 11 siblings, a daughter, Joy Kathleen (Jones) Harman, and wife Joy Loraine Jones. He is survived by 6 children Whitney (Karen) Jones, Eb (Lisa) Jones, Jen (Devon) Filby, Matt (Jodi)Jones, Jackie (Steve) Brown, and Wes (Patti) Jones, 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Don and Joy were active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in the Kearns 4th Ward. Dad served in numerous callings over the years, many of those years asthe Ward Clerk. They made many life-long and eternal friends there, and left a lasting impact onthe lives they touched. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 11, 2018, 11:00 am, at Kearns 4th Ward 4232 West 5015 South, Kearns Utah. Viewings will be held Wednesday October 10, 2018, 6:00-8:00pm at McDougal Funeral Home,4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah and Thursday at the church,10:00-10:45am prior to services.Interment, South Jordan Cemetery, 1055 West 10630 South.
