TAYLORSVILLE- Our hardworking and seless husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend passed away suddenly on February 19, 2016 from complications of cancer. Jim was born March 4, 1944 to James Edward Sr. and Eleanor Jolin Taney in Sioux City, Iowa. He moved with his family to Utah in 1946, graduated from Granger High School and attended Brigham Young University. He married his sweetheart, Connie Steadman Taney on June 5, 1965 in Salt Lake City Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on December 1, 1965, and they were blessed with "ve beautiful, healthy children. He worked at Primary Childrens Medical Center for 37 years as a orthotist, was an avid hunter, involved in scouting, and a member of Mountain Men of the Wasatch. Attending many Mountain Man Rendezvous, he learned and developed a passion for gun smithing, and opened a store called The Gun Shop. He loved to cook, especially in a camp setting, was known to some as "Cookie", and owned a dutch oven catering business with his son. He dedicated his life to community involvement and serving others. He was a lifetime member of The Sons of the Utah Pioneers, Boy Scout leader extraordinaire, and Teen Council Advisor for the 4-H program. He served as a crossing guard, and caretaker at The Taylorsville-Bennion Heritage Center, where he enjoyed tinkering, using his "x-it skills, and loving animals. The Taney family van was often "lled with teens, much of his vacation time was spent chaperoning their adventures. His generosity and compassionate example inuenced many people in their leadership and personal development. He loved planning trips. He loved taking road trips to historical sites with his family, going to Disneyland, and cruising. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother-in-law, Bill Eley. He is survived by his wife, Connie, his 5 children, Tim (Zanette) Taney, Taunie Kantaris, Brandon (Corrin) Taney, Tiffany (Michael) Furner, Ben (Mekette) Taney, 13 grandchildren, sister, Linda Taney Eley, and brother, Michael (Pam) Taney. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Taylorsville LDS Stake Center at 4845 S. Woodhaven Dr. (1365 W.). Viewing will be held at the same location Wednesday evening, February 24, 2016 from 6 8 PM, and from 9 10:30 AM the morning prior the service.
