James Russell Donaldson

January 24, 1938 — February 4, 2018

Our beloved husband, father and friend, Jim (Jimmy), passed away following a difficult battle with Parkinson's Disease February 4, 2018. Jim was born in Standardville, Utah to Walter and Mary Donaldson on January 24, 1938. He was the youngest of 9 children. He married his sweetheart JoAne James in 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and together they had 3 children, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Jim spent his early childhood in Standardville, a small coal mining town in Carbon county where he learned the value of hard work. Jim's family later moved to Salt Lake City and there he graduated from Olympus High School. He attended the University of Utah and served in the Army and Airforce Reserves. He worked at Hercules Powder Company where he was an x-ray technician that services the Polaris Missile system and then spent 35 years at Associated Food Stores as a Purchasing Buyer. He had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and served as a Stake Executive Secretary, High Council, Bishopric Counselor, Stake Missionary, Service Missionary, Temple Worker and many other callings. He loved to take his family on fun vacations each summer, mostly to southern California to visit family which always included a trip to Disneyland and a stay at the beach house in San Clemente. Jim was a Ute fan and loved watching the Utes play football and basketball. Jim and JoAne had a fondness of dance and could be found dancing in the kitchen to the delight, and chagrin, of their kids. He was a wonderful father who was fully engaged with his children and enjoyed seeing them participate in sports and other activities. Jim leaves behind his wife JoAne; and their children Russell (Charlotte) Donaldson, Michelle (Stan) Strickland and Bryan (Bonnie) Donaldson; brother Bill (Connie) Donaldson. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Mary (Leo) Harmon, Walter (Connie) Donaldson, Robert (Marlene) Donaldson, Maxine (Charles) Biggins, Scott Donaldson, Doris Donaldson and Don Donaldson. We would like to thank the many care givers at Aspire Home Health & Hospice and the caring staff at Legacy House in South Jordan for the concern and kindness that he received.
