James William Sanderson

James (Jim) William Sanderson 1929 - 2012 Beloved Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather passed away on January 20, 2012. He was born February 22, 1929, in Nampa, ID to Joseph and Rhoda Sanderson, the youngest of nine children. He grew up in Nampa, ID and later moved to Salt Lake City, UT. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean War and was called to serve a mission in the Hawaiian Islands in 1953. He was sealed to Muriel Sanderson in 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a wonderful marriage that lasted 55 years. In 1959, Jim earned a Bachelor s Degree in mathematics from Brigham Young University and a Master s degree from the U of U a few years later. Jim and Muriel were living in BYU s married quarters when their first child (Kim) was born. Jim taught mathematics at West Lake Junior High School for most of his career. An avid bowler, Jim bowled in a Wednesday night league for many years. A devoted member of the LDS Church, Jim, held various positions in the Granger West 8th Ward. Jim s claim to fame, and highly anticipated each Christmas season, were his date pinwheel cookies. Every season, he would bake up a storm giving them to an ever-growing list of friends and family. Jim was a quiet man, but he was loved by many and will be missed. He is survived by his wife, Muriel, and 4 children: Kim (David), NY, Bill (Beckie), TX, Mark (Stephanie), GA, and David (Caroline), UT. Grandchildren Michelle, Louis, Tyler and a highly anticipated yet unknown grandchild. Great-grandchildren Samantha and Jacob. The family wishes to thank Legacy House Taylorsville and Intermountain Hospice. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2012, 12:00 noon at Granger West 8th Ward, 3305 South Scottsdale Drive (3960 W.). Viewing will be held Thursday, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and again at the church Friday 11-11:45 a.m. Interment at Valley View Memorial Park.
