Jay F. Kilfoyle MSgt Air Force, (1934-2018) Eternal Husband, Father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep following a short but courageous battle with cancer on July 4th, 2018. Jay was born December 22, 1934 in Ogden Utah, where he attended Ben Lomond High, Weber State College, and The Air force Academy. As a young man, Jay participated in many civic organizations including the ROTC program at Ben Lomond High School and he served as a radar operator for the Civil air Patrol. He had a great admiration for aeronautics and aviation. He could cite and tell you facts about many of the planes in the Air Force. He was known by many who knew him for his 34 years of service in the Air National Guard. He served his country honorably. He chaired the Sub-for Santa program at the 130th guard unit for over 25 years helping unfortunate children. No one ever had a bad thing to say about him. He was kind and giving of his time and his talents. Jay was recognized with many awards including the Air Force Accommodation. Jay was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served faithfully in many callings and Stake missions. He shared his testimony through his example. Jay first met Leda Everton in 1952 (Roy, UT) when she was 12 years old. Jay at the time was dating Leda's girlfriend's older sister. Leda must have charmed him for they later started dating. As Leda was preparing to leave for her job at the Grand Canyon on May 31st 1958, Jay realized he couldn't let this pretty girl leave without a date. So he called her on May 30th, 1958. When Jay called her she was surprised that he remembered her. There was no time for this date, but they continued to correspond and fell in love through the mail. When she came home, they decided to go to a drive-in movie and once they arrived, they decided to elope to Evanston, WY. And later were sealed in the Idaho Falls, ID temple. They moved to Granger, Utah and raised their family. Jay loved to travel; he has been to seven foreign countries and all 50 states. Before his wife passed, the two of them traveled every summer. Jay was an avid hat pin collector with over 500 pins from all over the world. He was always eager to tell you about his newest additions. In the summer Jay and Leda would also spend lots of time in the canyons with their friends. Jay and Leda would spend a lot of weekends playing pinochle with friends. Jay enjoyed sports; he coached his ward softball and his sons' baseball teams. He supported his children in all their activities. He was always at every game and event for his children. He made them the top priority of his life. Jay worked at Kennecott Copper for many years in the Silver Mine, Smelter and Refinery areas. He retired in the sampling department as a supervisor. Jay was proud of his three children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren with their accomplishments. He would always ask how the kids were doing when he saw you. Grandpa loved and enjoyed being around his grand and great grandchildren. Jay was known to them as grandpa great. Jay was preceded in death by his wife Leda, parents George and Cynthia, his brothers Glen and Vern also his sisters Marlene and Sue Ann. Jay is survived by his three children Dean (Shirley) Kilfoyle, Deanna (Johnny) Lingmann, Darren (Kalena) Kilfoyle, 16 grand children, 13 great grand children and his sister Cleo. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road, where viewings will be held Monday, July 9th, 6-8:00 p.m. and prior to services on Tuesday from 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
