Our precious mother, Jean Bricker Paras, age 97, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, March 10, 2021, surrounded by her family, who loved and adored her. She was born in Murray, Utah, January 20, 1924, the eighth of nine children, to Ernest Wilford and Mable Timpson Bricker.
Jean devoted her life to her husband and children. She loved being a homemaker, and it showed. Her home was always tidy and orderly and completely charming. Jean carried on the traditions of her mother and grandmother: planting a garden, sewing, canning food, baking, and preparing good, home-cooked meals. Her daughters were enamored by her beautiful handiwork and watched her embroider, quilt, and make their clothes. Her son teased her endlessly, but she was a good sport and truly adored him. Jean’s love only grew as her children married. She loved their spouses, her grandchildren, and those they married. She cherished the opportunity to hold her great-grandbabies in her lap.
Jean shared her talents, appreciated music, and never stopped learning. Through her interests, she taught us to cultivate and appreciate beautiful things. Her yard was special evidence of this, filled with colorful flowers and always flourishing.
Jean was an elegant lady. She wore pretty clothes and traveled the world. Up until her dying day, she did her hair and makeup, whether she had visitors or not.
Not only did Jean relish her role as a wife and mother, but she also served her church and community, taking on the role of president in various organizations. As an accomplished pianist and organist, she played the hymns for her Latter-day Saint congregations for over 70 years. Her legacy and example of faith, devotion, and loyalty will live on in the lives of her family members, who she so greatly influenced. We imagine her dancing in heaven with her sweetheart, John, as they did the first day they met at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. We’d like to give a special thanks to family members and friends who helped her in her advanced years. We are eternally grateful.
Jean is survived by her five children: one son, who was the apple of her eye, Nick John (Charlene Grant) Paras of Brighton, Utah; four daughters, Denise Jean (Dale) Brower of St. George, Utah; Lisa (Monte) McDonald of South Jordan, Utah; Penny (Fred) Roberts of Alpine, Utah; and Trina Paras of Bluffdale, Utah; 21 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, John Paras; her parents; her siblings; and her sweet granddaughter, Lacy LouJean Brower.
Private services will be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Services will be livestream on Monday, March 15th, 11:00 a.m. at: https://vimeo.com/523843942. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
