Jeanellen D. Sims
Born 5/22/32
Died 6/19/23
Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert/Bob, her eldest son Robert E./Rob & (Lora), her Son-In-Law Tom (Cheryl), her siblings Patricia & William, and her parents Jean & Earl.
Jean's surviving children are William/Bill & (Ola), Roberta/Bobbie & (Dan), Thomas/Tom & (LaNea), Cheryl (Tom), and Scott (McKaylee). Jean has 43 Grand Children, 91 Great Grand Children and 12.5 Great Great Grand Children.
Jean was born in Chicago, the oldest of three children. She was introduced to her future love on a blind date, where she met Bob, and they dated until married in 1951.
Jean had six children and had to be very independent due to Bob's commitments in the Navy often keeping him away from home for long periods of time. She was a frequent visitor to the Navy Hospital with one child or another as they experienced life, and often pain. She dutifully cared for those six children throughout those formative years as a Stay-at-Home mother.
When her youngest started school full time, Jean started a career for the University of California in San Diego (UCSD) in their medical billing department. Jean quickly rose through the ranks and became a supervisor and remained at UCSD until her retirement.
Jean often enjoyed recounting the story of being home one day back in the 60's when a knock came at the door and two young men in suits were standing there asking if her husband was home. She told them no, but they were welcome to come back in the evening when he would be, and those fine gentlemen did return. They were Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Bob & Jean welcomed them into their home and listened to the messages they shared. It was a major turning point for this young family that set them on a new course that continued for the rest of their lives.
After retirement, Jean & Bob served a Mission for the Church in the Manila Philippines Mission, the Omaha Nebraska Mission, and the Tallahassee Florida Mission. Jean served in many capacities within her Church and was always willing to help. She worked in the San Diego Temple once it opened. .She was an avid Genealogist and worked as her Stake's Family History Director and Consultant.
Jean taught early morning Seminary for the youth in her Ward for many years. Jean was a very loving and kind person, and an awesome Mother, Grand Mother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grand Mother, and I have it on good authority that she was The Best Mother-in-Law someone could ever have. Every year, despite her age or health, you would receive a call on your birthday and hear two elderly voices singing "Happy Birthday to you..."
Jean had what she would refer to as a wonderful and fulfilling life. She died peacefully at home with family around her, just as she was always around for them.
We will miss you greatly, but we know that you have earned your reward and have finally returned to the loving arms of your Father, and the anxious arms of your eternal husband. Well done, Jean, Well Done!
