Joanne Mildred Sartor Shelton completed her earthly journey and passed away peacefully on January 30, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. Joanne was born on January 19, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to loving parents, Joseph and Mildred Roberts Sartor. She always considered herself a daddy's girl and has looked forward for many years to being reunited with both of her parents and others that have passed before. Joanne grew up in Salt Lake and had many fond memories of her childhood. She graduated from South High School where she was a star basketball player, softball player, and scholar. It was also during this time that she was set up on a blind date at a Liberty Park concert with William (Bill) Shelton. The date was the start of a loving relationship that turned into 55 years of marriage before Bill passed away in 2008. Bill and Joanne raised a family of eight children and are survived by six of them: Mark (Kathryn), Dianne Mendenhall (Doug), Kaye Jolley (LaVar), Lee (Marjorie), John (Shauna), and Susan Phelps (Dale). She is also survived by son- in-law Don Glenn (Rachelle); 47 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren. Joanne is preceded in death by her husband Bill; daughter Jolene; son Larry; three grandchildren; her parents; brother John Sartor; and many others that are now rejoicing with their reunion. Joanne leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and testimony. She loved the gospel and never wavered in her commitment to doing what the Lord asked of her. She served in many church callings over the years, but mostly enjoyed her many years as girls' camp director. She loved many things including teddy bears and root beer, but her greatest joy was always her family. She will be greatly missed by all those lucky enough to have known her. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, 1:00 p.m., at the LDS Church located at 989 South 2550 East, Spanish Fork. Viewings will be held Friday, February 3rd, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and again Saturday prior to services at the church from 11:45-12:45. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates. The family wishes to thank all those who loved and took care of our mom in the past months including those at Legacy House in Spanish Fork.
