Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Joey F Petersen passed away peacefully March 31, 2015 following a short illness. He was the only child of Earl Curtis and Rosella Franson Petersen. Joey grew up in Oakley, Utah. He joined the Navy during WWII and proudly served his country aboard the battleship New Jersey in the Pacific Theater until the end of the war. On December 20, 1946, Joey married Thirza May Bevan in the Salt Lake City Temple. Thirza preceded Joey in death on February 5, 1994. Joey and Thirza had four sons, 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Joey married Carol Naylor on January 5, 1996. Carol brought Joey much love and happiness and many new extended family members that he loved and enjoyed spending time with. Joey and Thirza owned and managed Pete's Frostop drive-in restaurant located at 4124 S. Redwood Road for over 20 years. They then built and managed the Concord House Soup and Sandwich Shop located at the same address. Joey retired from the restaurant business in 1979. Joey then worked for the LDS Church Building Maintenance department for 10 years prior to his retirement. Joey loved gardening and was an avid BYU Fan "Go Cougars". Joey was active in the LDS Church. He loved genealogy and served as a humanitarian missionary at the LDS Church Family History Center. He also served as a Temple Worker in the Jordan River Temple Baptistry. Joey was loved and admired by many, especially his family. His children and grandchildren will attest to his sense of humor and remarkable story-telling abilities. Joey was preceded in death by his wife Thirza, and his parents. Joey is survived by his wife Carol and sons Brian (Jackie), Mark, Jeff (Jeanne) and Eric (Jackie) and all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family thanks all those who cared for, visited or called Joey for their love and support. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015, 12:00 noon at the Taylorsville 4th Ward, 4310 South 3200 West. There will be a visitation on Monday April 6, 2015, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and again Tuesday 10:30-11:45 a.m. at the church prior to services.
