John Evan Pettit

November 20, 1958 — December 31, 2013

John E. Pettit 1958 ~ 2013 Next time you look up at the stars, see a beautiful sunset or a campfire burning, know that our charismatic, loving father and friend, John Pettit, is looking at it with you and saying, "Isn't it cool that your ancestors saw the same exact thing? It's beautiful and God painted it for you." John Evan Pettit was welcomed back to heaven December 31, 2013. His life began with two loving parents, Irene Davis Pettit and Errol Pettit on November 20, 1958. He had a wonderful childhood dressing up in skeleton costumes, scaring his sisters, and in his teens driving his candy apple red Camero and racing cars in the parking lot of Hillcrest High School, where John graduated. John, known for his loving personality and friendly jovial spirit, had a "killer" singing voice and stage presence. He loved performing with his band and singing Beatles songs. Amongst many of John's talents, he was an extraordinary handyman and grill master. John could always be found working, flirting, laughing, storytelling and caring for individuals with disabilities. He met the love of his life, Jeanie Lawrence, on New Years Eve at a 7-11. Two years later he would marry her on New Years Eve. They were sealed in the LDS Temple on September 16, 2010. John and Jeanie raised four beautiful girls and their sons Mickey and Jason. He was a phenomenal father and always found time to do little things with his children, from throwing a soft ball to being the best cheerleader at the Miss Utah pageants. John loved to serve, enjoyed making people laugh and was very giving, especially of his exquisite artworks and wood carvings. He was an avid outdoors man and seasoned hunter with a fabulous trigger finger. He loved bow hunting and enjoyed spending time in "God's country" with his brothers and many friends such as "V (Jerry)". A faithful member of the LDS Church, John loved his callings, especially Scout Master. An Eagle Scout, John loved camping, hiking, teaching chivalry and handing out vitamin C and jerky to his boy scouts and young men (because they were healthier than candy.) He adored his grandchildren. Taking many 4-wheeler rides, fishing trips, held lightsaber fights, shooting pellet guns, made cookies and watched Peppa Pig. John will be forever missed. He will have left this earth with no regrets, other than not seeing the Detroit Lions win a Super Bowl. His spirit will be carried on by his wife, Jeanie Pettit; children Sarah Pettit (Trevor Sayer), Angie (James) Duckworth, Jessica Pettit, Laurie Doherty, Mickey (Jennifer) Brown, Jason Willis; grandchildren Teran, Brynn, Jimi, Jed, Bebe (Bugwug), Annjelie, Taya, Mikylah and Baby Lauren; and loving siblings Lester (Mary) Pettit, Frank (Kathy) Pettit, Sherrol (David) Armstrong, Lin Brown (Mel Milgrom) . John's viewing will take place Monday, January 6, 2014, 6-8 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 S. Redwood Road.
