John Michael Bell

April 28, 1954 — August 22, 2016

John "Angel" Bell, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 22, 2016 in Taylorsville, Utah, at the age of 62. John, the third of four children, was born on April 28, 1954 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Samuel Tilden and Ina LaRue Bell. John's passing was an unexpected event and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. John enjoyed playing sports and was an avid football player, wrestler, and even tried his hand at tennis and golf while in high school. Following high school, John enlisted in the United States Air Force and he later enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. His dream was to work in law enforcement but during his stints in the military, he sustained a severe knee injury, causing him to receive a Medical under Enforcement; but that didn't dissuade his desire or perseverance. After a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears, John was finally hired by the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office, where he worked in the mobile crime lab unit. He was able to work in the field he wanted to work in and worked with what he considered to be some of the finest people around, and he got to do so for 25 years before he finally retired. During this 25 year period, he was also able to touch the lives of many by way of his working many part-time hours as security for the Harmon's Grocery store chain. His service to Harmon's spanned a 20 year period and he left that position when he retired from the Sheriff's Office. However, as the hard working person John was, retirement didn't suit him well and his "retirement" status only lasted about a year. For the last 10 years or so, he has worked at the Salt Palace Exhibition Center as an EMT or as their Security Supervisor. John met and ultimately married the love of his life, Debbie Mackie, on February 14, 1976. John and Debbie were sealed together for eternity in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple in American Fork, Utah on November 29, 1997. John is survived by his wife; five children, John William (Melanie), Justin Michael, Nichole M. (Matthew) Parish, Sean Charles, and Shelby Joan (Tyson) Tolman; 13 grandchildren; his two brothers, Ted Brock and Gary Bell; sister Barbara Jensen; and father-in-law Charles Mackie. John has now been reunited with both of his parents; as well as his mother-in-law, Joan Mackie. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016, 1:00 p.m., at the LDS Stake Center, 4260 West 5215 South, Kearns, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday, August 26th, 6-8:00 p.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road and again prior to services at the church from 12-12:45 p.m. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road.
