Mr. John Munro Butler, III passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the University of Utah Medical Center. Jay was born May 29, 1963 in Ridgewood, NJ to the late John Munro and Gail Keppel Butler. He attended Northern Highlands Regional High School and Castleton State College in Castleton, VT. Jay loved the outdoors and to work with his hands. He lived in Rutland, VT, where he trained and worked as a stonemason for many years. In addition, Jay lived in Portland, ME, and for the past two years, Salt Lake City, UT. Jay was an avid skier and golfer. He loved music and played multiple instruments. He played bass guitar in several bands. Jay is survived by his mother Gail Butler; two sisters, Heather (Neil) Karol, Wayne, NJ and Holly (Scott) Arisman, Wayne, NJ; and many dear friends. Neil Young wrote "As you go through life, you've got to see the valleys as well as the peaks." Jay saw both and was always happiest by his beloved mountains. A memorial service will be held in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the University of Utah Medical Center and the Volunteers of America.
