John Oliver Perkes was born November 16, 1940 and passed away on April 3, 2020 after a long battle with illness. His wife Linda Jean Perkes was by his side.
John was a simple, humble, and funny man. Born into a large family, he loved telling stories of their life on the ranch. He loved horses, long walks, and quiet time on his own.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints among the Navajo people.
John loved his country and felt it his duty to volunteer during the Vietnam war. Though he did not often speak about his experiences, he served with honor and heroism, and was awarded the Silver Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
He earned his Bachelors degree in Psychology from BYU and enjoyed a long career as a state employee before retirement.
He is survived by his wife Linda; his ex-wife Cherry; his four children (Alan, Lia (Philip), Rhoda and Ian); five grandchildren (Anna (Chase), Nik (Kyrstin), Kōwhai (Connor), Vincent and Cecilia); and two great-grandchildren (Philip and Ralph). His living siblings are Robert, Jean, Leon, Tommy, Theo, Becky Todd and Beth.
He will be missed. “See you on the flip flop!”
