John R. Petersen Loved by All John Randall Petersen, 72, passed away in his sleep at home in Taylorsville, Utah, Wednesday morning, 4 April 2012. John was born on 4 September 1939 in Brigham City, Utah, and is survived by his wife, Lana Diane, and four children, Julie Meyers, Leslie John, Randall Lee, and Bryan James, 9 grand-children, and 3 great-grand-children. He is also survived by his siblings, Dorthy Gay Hansen, Susanna Ferrera, Richard Petersen, Sonia (Toni) Ririe, Linda Behling, and Judith Berry. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Gerald Petersen, and Lavelle Shelby. His father, Charley Elmer, was born in 1904 in Penrose, Box Elder, Utah, and passed away in 1978; and his mother, Anna Marguerite, was born in Mantua, Box Elder, Utah, and passed away in 1964. John grew up in Deweyville and spent summers in Promontory working the family farm and running around barefoot through the fields and washes. He helped build the family house on the farm and loved to go deer hunting there. He loved to go on outings and be with his family. John and Lana actually met when they were much younger when Lana lived in Bear River, and John was working the farm in Promontory. John and Jerry (Lana s older brother) were good friends, and John often came over to hang out. One day, Lana walked out with one of the babies (one of her siblings), and John took notice. They dated, and from there were married in Las Vegas, Nevada, by an LDS bishop at an aunt s house on 26 October 1963. John and Lana have been the most adorable couple all their married lives and both adore each other. Throughout his life, John loved to take things apart and make things work. He was a laborer, mechanic, and truck driver for most of his life. He loved to build things. Years ago, he created amazing trees and bracelets from copper wire, and most recently, he made decorative bowls on his wood lathe. John always kept a garden. When his children were younger, the whole back yard was filled with the garden. Each year, it got a little smaller and a little smaller. But even a small garden is a bigger garden than any of his children keep. One of the favorite memories the boys have is going wood hunting with Dad to collect enough wood to heat the house for the winter. The one thing that John will be remembered for the most is that everyone he came in contact with loved him right away. He would do anything for anyone, was a pleasure to talk to, and fun to be around. Our dad, husband, grandpa, and friend, will be dearly missed during this temporary separation from us. Dad, take care until we can meet again. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2012, 12:00 noon at the LDS Chapel, 3495 West 4850 South, Taylorsville, Utah. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, 6-8 PM at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.
