John Robert Jensen passed away at the age of 94, on November 16, 2016 in the home of his son, Terry Jensen, where he has been loved and cared for almost nine years. John was born October 27, 1922 in Axtell, Utah, the eighth child of Josias Jensen Jr. and Mathilda Maria Hansen. He attended grade school in Axtell and Centerfield, Utah and high school in Gunnison, Utah. At age 18, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served nearly 5 years during WWII, with one year in the South Pacific Theatre. During the war, he met and married his sweetheart, Carrol Lena Jensen. They were married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on December 18, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 20, 1945. After the war he earned a degree at the U of U as an electrical engineer. John had a very strong testimony of the LDS Church. He was a dutiful and faithful servant and held many positions: assistant Scout Master, Bishopric and High Council. He also served as a Patriarch. He worked many years in the name extraction program. Carrol and John served a mission together in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They also worked as ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple. John loved to work. He loved to garden and raise fruits and vegetables. He worked on his home and cars. John was an example to all who knew him. He has now gone to join his beloved wife. John is survived by his sons and daughters: Rex (Sherrie) Jensen, Terry Jensen, Allese (Harley) Dalton, Michael (Melanie) Jensen, Alaina (Keith) Ramsey, Stephen (Mary) Jensen; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. As a family, we are incredibly grateful to our brother Terry for giving such loving, wonderful care to our dad through his last years. A public viewing will be held Friday, November 18th, 11-11:45 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road with private family services to follow. Interment, Redmond Cemetery.
