Harvey VanKatwyk, beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, and friend returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday July 16, 2023, in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by his loving family.
Harv was a quiet gentle man who loved his family deeply and wanted nothing more than to have them together for eternity. Harvey was born December 31, 1937, in Salt Lake City, to John VanKatwyk and Tesselmo Rossiter. He graduated from South High School and then went on to study for two years at the University of Utah. In 1958, he served a 2 ½ year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Holland (Netherlands). He and his missionary companion were blessed to be able to open up the town of Katwik there for missionary work. The town had previously been closed until this time. Harv served in the United States Navy and went on to his life career in law enforcement. He served many years in the Salt Lake County Sheriff's office and then went on to serve in Adult Parole and Probation. He had a firm belief there was good in every person and spent his time trying to assist those to find a path away from crime.
Harv is survived by his wife of many years, Marge Gehring VanKatwyk; children, Todd L (Tiffany) Wilberger, Scott C (Paula) Wilberger, Scott (Jan) VanKatwyk, and Kristy VanKatwyk. He is survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved deeply; his wonderful and loving sisters, Sylvia Fuller and Diana Albiston, and many nieces and nephews.
Harv was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Curtis VanKatwyk.
Harv's constant smile and his gentle manner will be missed by all who knew him. He never spoke ill of another person, always believing we are all children of a Heavenly Father who loves completely. Your love and kindness will live on forever - until we meet again, sweet memories we will hold close.
