John W. Pilcher, born August 18, 1941, in Gilmer, Texas, to Nathan and Mamie Lee Catron Pilcher; died January 26, 2016. He attended Gilmer Schools until 1960, where he had some of the best teachers anyone could have; John thanks you. He graduated in 1960 and was president of his senior class. He played football and was a member of student council. He worked at the Dairy Queen through High School. After that, he moved to Utah, where he spent most of his life. He built a cabin on the upper Provo river where he fished for trout and had a herd of buffalo. He was a member and recording secretary for the Utah Pipe Trades Local #57 and then the Local #140, from where he retired. He spent the last 25 years living in Salt Lake City collecting fine art and antiques. He had a damn good life and many good friends, so don't mourn his death; not even Elvis could escape it. Thanks and appreciation goes to Dr. Steven Miller and his great staff for many years of continued concern and care. Also, Dr. Roger Freedman and his office for the never ending help and care, no matter the time of day or night. Thank you to Care Source for hospice care and help in the last days, when they were difficult. Sofi (Mele) and Oli, thank you for the quality time you spent with John during the last days of his life you are greatly appreciated. A viewing for John will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016, 10-11:00 a.m., at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, with a graveside service to follow at 11:30 a.m., Mount Olivet, 1342 East 500 South.
