John (Jack) Willard Nielson, Jr. 1927 ~ 2012 Jack died Tuesday, September 25, 2012 of multiple myeloma. He was born January 12, 1927 to John Willard Nielson and Forrest Adella Booke. He grew up in Hunter, Utah, where he lived his entire life. After graduating from Cyprus High School, he served in the US Navy near the end of WWII. He married Dorothy Jay Clark on September 12, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. After the end of the war, he attended the University of Utah and obtained a bachelor s degree in chemical engineering. He became a top executive at Bennett s Paint. He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in many callings throughout his life including bishop, high councilor, stake executive secretary, and gospel doctrine teacher. He and his wife served in the Rochester, New York Mission at the Hill Cumorah Historic sites. They also served as ushers at Temple Square for eleven years. Jack was an avid gardener, traveler, camper, and sports fan. He took his family on many trips and adventures. He is preceded in death by his parents; second mother, LaVelle Nielson; sister, Shirley Ashburn; and brother-in-law, Byron Mackay. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 7 children: Nancy Futrell MD, Amy (Montey) Thompson, John (Khai) Nielson, Mary (Mike) Mayhew, Carol Ferguson, Gayle (Richard) Hoffman, Bonnie (Thane) Bingham; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, with three on the way; sister, Caryl Mackay; brother, Richard (Kathryn).
