Joseph Humphrey

February 6, 1933 — February 4, 2024

Joseph Paul Humphrey passed away suddenly at his home in Kearns, Sunday, February 4, 2024, just two days shy of his 91st birthday. He was born in Spanish Fork, Utah in his grandfather's home on February 6, 1933, to Joseph William Humphrey and Annie Rebecca Banks. He grew up in Magna, Utah and had many pleasant memories of the town.

He was always a hard worker, starting when he was very young, by picking up pop bottles and turning them in for cash. He had a newspaper route, set pins for the Kennecott bowling alley, cleaned movie theaters for George Smith, then ushered at the Gem Theater. He worked at Tooele Ordinance Depot for a few months.

He attended Webster Elementary, then Cyprus Junior High for 7th and 8th grades. That school burned down. He then attended Cyprus High School for grades 9-12, where he met his high school sweetheart, Ilene Bawden. They graduated in May,1951 and married December 29, 1951. After he graduated, he worked at Kennecott for 42 years before he retired.

They are the proud parents of 4 children: Denise (Jim) Clardy, Sandra (Jeff) Perry, Karen (Kevin) McQuivey, and Duane (Paula) Humphrey. They have 14 grandchildren, 10 of whom are married; 30 great-grandchildren, 6 of whom are married, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ilene, and sister Rebecca Woodbury. Preceded in death by his sister, June Clayton; brother William Humphrey; daughter-in-law Paula Humphrey, and grandson Kurtis Paul Humphrey.
