Joshua Cottrell

June 13, 1989 — November 13, 2023

Joshua Reasch Cottrell, 34, of Aubrey, Texas, passed away on November 13, 2023, after complications related to a pulmonary embolism.

Josh was born on June 13, 1989, to Dale Christiansen Cottrell and Joleen Reasch Cottrell Zimmer in Cody, Wyoming. Josh moved with his family to Vernal, Utah, when he was ten years old. Josh was a lineman on the Uintah Utes football team and participated in a variety of social activities during his high school years, including DECA.

After Josh graduated from Uintah High School in 2008, he served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lisbon, Portugal. In 2010, he started his undergraduate studies at Utah State University (USU) in Logan, Utah. While attending USU, Josh met his sweetheart, Rachel Anne Thorley, and they were married on May 11, 2013. After both graduating from USU, Josh and Rachel stayed in Logan, Utah, to start their careers and welcomed twin boys, Hank Robert Cottrell and Cory Matthew Cottrell, on September 8, 2016.

Josh had many interests and hobbies, including barbecuing, college football, and spending time outdoors, but only one priority: his family. It was abundantly clear to everyone in his life that his most cherished responsibility was that of father, followed closely by his role as a husband, son, and brother.

Josh is preceded in death by his father, Dale Cottrell; his paternal grandmother, Shirley Cottrell; and his maternal grandfather, Rex Reasch.

Josh is survived by his wife, Rachel Cottrell, and sons, Hank Cottrell and Cory Cottrell; mother, Joleen Zimmer, and stepfather, Mike Zimmer; stepmother, Irena Cottrell; siblings Kayse (Koffi) Amevor; Christopher Cottrell; Ashley (Bret) Kobe; Joseph (Ashley) Cottrell; Matthew (Madison) Cottrell; father-in-law, Rodney Thorley, and mother-in-law, Janalee Sanders Thorley; and Rachel's siblings Nathan Thorley, Jarod (Christina) Thorley, and Erin Thorley. In addition to these family members, he has many grandparents, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and friends from all stages of his life who love and miss him dearly.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 7035 S. Nutree Drive, Cottonwood Heights, Utah, on November 24, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will take place prior to the service, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Josh will be laid to rest near his father in Meeteetse, Wyoming, the following day.
