Joy Maranda Swalbereg Barber

Joy S. Barber 1923 ~ 2012 On Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the age of 88, Joy Maranda Swalberg Barber of West Valley City, Utah, passed away after suffering a stroke. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. Born October 24, 1923, in a log cabin in Marysvale, Utah, to Ralph C. and Sena Maranda Swalberg. She graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science in English and Drama in 1945. She married the love of her life, Robert B. Barber, July 11, 1945, in the Salt Lake Temple, and together they raised seven children. Joy spent her entire life giving service to others, and loved taking care of her family. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many capacities throughout her life, and especially loved music-related callings. She served a mission with her husband in the Salt Lake Mission and the Jordan River Temple. She taught piano lessons up until a year before her death. Her love of music was an important part of her life and she never missed any event where her children or grandchildren were performing. She enjoyed her life-long association with her college sorority (Val Norn s), and loved quilting, cooking, gardening and the arts. Survived by her children, Robert (Joy) Barber; Nancy (Randy) Allen; Randa (Steve) Pickle; Thomas (Susan) Barber; Carol Blackburn; David (Shari) Barber; Tammy (Darrin) Dixon; 24 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Bob, her beloved sister, Beth Davis, and brothers, Ralph Swalberg and Carl Swalberg, and son-in-law, Gerry Blackburn. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 21, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the Constitution Ward, 2850 West 3835 South where a viewing will be held Friday, January 20, 2012, 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, 10-10:45 am. prior to the services. Interment, approximately 2:30 p.m., Spanish Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
