Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on March 28, 2015 after a six-year courageous battle with non-small cell lung cancer. Joyce was born May 24, 1953 in Salt Lake City to Lowell Andrew and Shirley Deane Armitage Bennion. She grew up in a loving and tight-knit neighborhood in Kearns and was a proud graduate of Kearns High School. Joyce attended Utah Technical College and the University of Utah but she always bled blue. At age 19 she embraced the faith of her fathers and never looked back. She served as a full-time missionary in the Germany Duesseldorf Mission with Hans-Juergen and Ursula Saager as mission parents. She loved the German land, people and language, and often said that German was the language of heaven. Joyce always wanted to marry a valiant return missionary, and did so when she married Allen Lee Luker in the Salt Lake Temple on December 16, 1978, being sealed by LeGrande Richards. They were blessed with three fabulous children. The day she became a mother was the happiest day of her life. She loved serving in the church in all capacities but her favorites were as missionary and primary worker. She volunteered for many years at Mountain View Elementary in Miss Louder's fifth grade class. Joyce loved to read, sew, scrapbook and quilt. Her favorite pastime was watching her kids play softball and baseball. She was president of Taylorsville Bonnett Ball during the time Megann played softball. She worked for Northwest Pipeline, Williams Companies and Kern River Gas Transmission since 1981. Her co-workers were very dear to her. Survived by husband, Allen; children, Miranda Luker (Pete Van Slooten), Megann (Mitchell) Peterson, Ryan (Melissa) and her beloved grandchildren Scarlet, Autumn and Eli. Also surviving are her mother Shirley, brothers Kevin(Ellen) and Cory (Patti), sister-in-law Dorothy Bennion; and many nieces and nephews, plus a large extended family. A viewing will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Bennion 19th Ward, 6250 South 2200 West, Taylorsville, Utah and also at the same location on Friday, April 3, 2015, 10:30-11:45 am followed by the funeral services at 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Estates. Arrangements under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
