Joyce Blackburn James 1929 ~ 2013 Joyce Blackburn James was born to goodly parents, Ernest Ephraim and Melva Lucile Turner Blackburn on July 30, 1929 in Delta, Utah. She married Henry Allen James on June 10, 1949 in the Logan LDS Temple. She died March 9, 2013 in Sandy, Utah. When Joyce was almost two-years old, her parents moved their family to Manchester, Montana, near Great Falls. She graduated from Simms High School, and attended Montana State College in Bozeman before moving to Logan, Utah. While Joyce was living in Logan with her brother, Garth and his family, she met and later married Henry. Joyce dedicated her life to her family and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various ward and stake callings including Relief Society, Young Women, Primary, and Scouting organizations. She had many dear friends and neighbors in the Kearns 4th Ward where she lived for almost sixty years. Joyce also served as a missionary with her husband in the Atlanta Georgia Temple. Her testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, along with her love and fondness for her family, were the most important things in her life. Joyce is survived by her children, Sherrie & Steve Player, Deanne & Mike Lever, Allen & Debbie James, Judee & Dennis Stewart, Lisa & Vernon Cope, Warren & Michelle James; 24 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lynn & Juanita Blackburn, Duane & Doretha Blackburn, Loye Blackburn, Merle & Jan Blackburn; sisters, Donna Warnick, Betty Jensen, Kaye and Bob Stevens; brother-in-law, Wilf & Anne James, sister-in-law, Maxine James. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson, Lonnie James; brothers, Garth & Eileen, Bryce, Kent, Gerry; brothers-in-law, George Warnick, Berg Jensen, Dan & Eva Kirby, Don James, Ralph & Cory James. Thank you to those who provided tender care for Joyce, especially her granddaughters, Angela James Haymond and Emily Lever Gunderson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Kearns 4th Ward building, 4232 West 5015 South, Kearns, Utah. Visitation for family and friends, Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, and again at the ward building, 10:00 - 10:45 AM prior to the funeral.
