June Ann Meyer Bailey

June 1, 1931 — January 29, 2020

June Ann Meyer Bailey was born June 1, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Henry Gray Meyer and June Stanley Marsh.  Born during the Great Depression, she learned to be hardworking and thrifty.  She worked with her family photo studio, traveling to carnivals and to Lagoon.  At age 15, she started a babysitting service with 10 employees.

She liked to sing and to ballroom dance, and she started the Pep Club at South High.  Her sister, Alfene, often commented that “her sparkling personality, her long blonde hair, and beautiful smile drew many people to her.”

After high school, she worked for the telephone company until she met and married her sweetheart, Rulon Bailey.  They lived in New Mexico and Florida, and eventually raised their five children in southern California.  She loved her children, teaching them by example to be compassionate and look for the good in others. She was an inspiration as she went to college as a mother of five and earned her associate degree.  She always valued children, guiding them as a teacher’s assistant, preschool teacher, Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, Girls’ Camp leader, and Primary president and chorister.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was a woman of deep faith and integrity. She had a strong testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and served valiantly wherever she was needed. After being widowed at age 52, she served the Lord full time in the Arizona Tempe Mission.  She treasured her time in Fountain Hills and among the Yavapai people.

She “retired” to South Salt Lake, but never stopped working.  She was active in DUP. She loved serving her neighbors and friends, especially those who lived in care centers.  June Ann was a person who always looked outward, lifting others and being a true friend.  She brought out the best in people as she served humbly, always putting others first.

Our family wishes to extend our love and gratitude to her friends and dear ones in the Central Park and Palos Verdes wards.  A special thank you to her caregiving friends at Auberge at Aspen Park, who treated her lovingly and always with respect.

June Ann is survived by her children Cindy (Einar) Johnson, Mark (Johnna) Bailey, Marianne (Bradley) Olsen, Denise Roberts, daughter-in-law Enadine Bailey, 20 grandchildren, sister Alfene Page, brother Gray Meyer, and many great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Stanton, grandson Brian Johnson, son-in-law Bret Roberts, brother-in-law Tom Page, and sister-in-law Caroline Meyer.

A viewing will be held Saturday, February 1, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 13112 S 700 East in Draper, Utah.  Services will be held February 8 in San Pedro, California, with a viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1635 West 9th Street.  Interment: Green Hills Cemetery, 27501 S Western Ave., Rancho Palos Verdes.  In lieu of flowers, please find a way to help someone in need---that is what June Ann would do.
