Karen Louise Nelson Dunn, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (GG), aunt, and friend, passed away April 4, 2024 at the age of 77. Karen was born September 6, 1946, in American Fork, Utah.
Karen graduated from Orem High School. Received a Bachelors in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University, and a Masters of Science in Education from Utah State University.
She was committed to education and excelled at teaching both children and adults.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, she served in the scouting program, MIA, Primary, Relief Society, and FOREVER in the nursery. She served a mission with her husband at Temple Square as Conference Center ushers.
She loved art and crafts and had hobbies in oil paints, ceramics, porcelain dolls, leather works, stain glass, jewelry, and beading. She shared her hobbies with her students. If you were ever in her classroom, she taught you how to make origami frogs and at some point had you in homemade beaded skirt in a performance of Māori dancing.
She was a talented seamstress, and used her skills to make dolls, and clothes and whatever else needed sewing. She took in sewing jobs to supplement the family income. After retiring, she spent her time creating quilts for her family, friends, and donated many quilts to the humanitarian service center.
Preceded in death by her parents, Vernon W Nelson and Julia Marjorie Elder Nelson and two brothers Karl and Larry. Survived by husband Laurence Dunn, Children: Denise Isaac, Diana Dunn, Debra Dunn, Donna & Todd Mills, Robert & Jennifer Dunn;
grandchildren: Joshua Isaac, Megan Isaac, Jordan Mills (Preston) Jolly, Melainey Isaac, Tanner (Aurora) Mills, McKenzie Isaac (Skyler) Stultz, Brayden Dunn, Brooklyn Dunn; great-grandchildren: Rowan Stultz; siblings: Vernon Nelson, Stan Nelson, Stella Myler, Cory Nelson.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Heritage Park 2nd Ward 5233 S. 3200 W. Taylorsville, Utah.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 12, with a viewing from 9:00-9:45 AM and funeral starting at 10:00 AM at Heritage Park 2nd Ward 5233 S. 3200 W. Taylorsville, Utah.
Interment at Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North800 East, Orem, Utah.
