Karen Johnson

Our mom, Karen Johnson, 78, passed away on May 27, 2023, in West Jordan, Utah.

Mom was born on October 8, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Leo R. Thomas Sr. and Virginia Cardwell.

Mom graduated from West High School in 1962 (once a Panther, always a Panther) and went on to attend school at BYU in Provo.

Mom married our dad, George Terry Johnson, on June 17, 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple. Mom and Dad went on to have 5 children, Kari Ortiz, Terry B "Teko" Johnson (Jody), Wendy Seidman (Jay), Jason Johnson (Monica), Todd Johnson (Lisa).

Mom loved growing up and living in Salt Lake City for most of her 78 years. She especially loved the Pioneer Stake and the 25th Ward where she and dad raised their five children. She was proud to be a West High Panther and let everyone know where she was from. Mom loved to make chocolate chip cookies and brownies for any occasion (eat dessert first), and was known to make bingo cards for every holiday and birthday. She loved the roses in her yard and watching the game show network and her beloved Utah Jazz. She would spend her time making scrapbooks from family vacations, and making quilts for grandkids and new born babies of people she knew. Mom was so thoughtful, kind, and always made others feel welcome. More than anything, mom loved being a grandma and spending time with her family. She was in her own home with her family in her last moments here on earth. Our mom, grandma, and GG will be missed by so many!

Karen is survived by Kari Ortiz - daughter, of West Jordan, Wendy Seidman - daughter, of Voorhees NJ, Jason Johnson - son, of Salt Lake City, Todd Johnson - son, of South Jordan, and 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Karen is preceded in death by George Terry Johnson - spouse, Terry "Teko" Johnson - son, her parents, two brothers, and 3 sisters.

The service for Karen Johnson will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, Utah.

Visitation: Thursday, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McDougal Funeral Home.

Burial: Elysian Burial Gardens, Millcreek, Utah.
