Karin F. Holmgren 1933 ~ 2024
Karin Finlayson Holmgren, our dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024. Born November 2, 1933 in West Jordan, UT, Mom was the oldest child of Grandale and Violet Finlayson. Her childhood revolved around family, farm work, education, and music, and those experiences shaped her entire life, as well as those of her future family.
She graduated from Jordan High School and the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education.
She married her sweetheart, Marcus Holmgren, on May 3, 1956, in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of six children. Marcus and Karin were constant companions and their devotion to one another has been an example to those around them.
Mom loved her family and worked constantly to meet the needs of her husband and children.
She could always be found doing something on behalf of someone else, and her service was never ending. Wherever her family moved with the U.S. Air Force, in such places as California, Illinois, Idaho, Michigan, Holland, Utah, and Texas, she worked to build a home where they could feel safe and supported.
She joined Marcus in presiding over the Sweden Stockholm Mission from 1978-81 where she loved serving and supporting their young missionaries. She then returned with Marcus to Sweden in 1990 to serve in the Sweden Stockholm Temple. Temple and family history work brought her great joy and she loved her further service in the Jordan River Temple.
Mom was constantly using her many impressive talents in music, sewing, cake making, cooking, crocheting, lace making, and others, to create beauty and joy. Her hands were constantly creating something wonderful.
Mom had a strong testimony of the of the Gospel of Jesus Christ which she demonstrated by her constant love, service, and encouragement of others. She spent decades using her musical talents in accompanying countless church meetings and choirs on both the piano and organ.
She is preceded in death by her beloved companion, Marcus; her parents; sons, Marcus Erik Holmgren and Thomas Holmgren. Survived by her daughters, Ann Roberts and Jane (Steve) Brown; sons, John (Leslie) Holmgren and Nels (Emily) Holmgren; 11 grandsons and 11 granddaughters, as well as 19 great-grandchildren.
